Lawrence Fong to Judge Fall Exhibition

Lawrence Fong is Curator of American Art at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (JSMA), University of Oregon, Eugene. His most recent exhibition, Excessive Obsessions, 2011, features modern and contemporary artists including Suzanne Caporael, Ellsworth Kelly, Florence Pierce, Martin Puryear, and Gay Outlaw known for their abstract and minimalist expressions. Past exhibits of note include Carl Morris: History of Religions (his complete series of 1959 murals), 2007; New Art Northwest, contemporary art in Oregon and Washington, 2007; One Step Big Shot: Portraits by Andy Warhol and Gus Van Sant, 2010; and Ken Kesey’s Jail Journals, 2010.

His recent publications include: Forging a Modern Identity, American Paintings at the Detroit Institute of Arts, 2005, contributor; Frank Okada; The Shape of Elegance, 2006, catalogue essay, University of Washington Press; Art of the Time, Oregon State Capitol Art Collection, 2010, catalogue essay, Oregon Arts Commission; The Visionary Art Of Morris Graves, 2010, catalogue essay, Meridian Gallery; One Step Big Shot: Polaroid Portraits by Gus Van Sant, 2010, monograph, Nazraeli Press; and forthcoming, Effort to Bloom, Letters of Morris Graves, 2012, University of Washington Press.
