I want to start by thanking all the talented photographers who submitted work, making my job so difficult. Thank you to the Redwood Arts Association, Eureka Photoshop Users Group and also Pierson Building Center for their generous sponsorship of the event.

I was pleased to wander through the entries and enjoy so much solid work. The high number of talented artists in this community was quite evident. Images used rich color, alternative processes, and creative ideas that remind me that photography is not a static art form, but a transformative one. Photography can lift the spirit, or as Bresson said, “capture the decisive moment.” Images can ask us questions, or provide answers. Photography is accessible, and allows all of us to be creative.

Choosing images that stood out of the group was not a simple task. In the end, it came down to who had the most unique vision, who stood out as an example to exemplify the category and utilize their medium. Each artist had approached the idea of landscape, people, abstraction, and all of the other categories and done something a little bit unexpected, whether in their composition, their ideas, or their execution.

It was an honor for me to be part of your community of artists, even for a day. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in such an outstanding show, and thank all of you so much for your great work.
